Sometimes the most technical work is the stuff you barely notice - and that's exactly the point. This front yard had a sidewalk running uphill along the property edge, which created a real challenge when it came to getting a retaining wall to sit level and look clean from the street. The solution wasn't just stacking block and calling it good.
We used Unilock Brussels Dimensional block for this one. It's a premium product with a natural, tumbled look that pairs well with the stone and wood exterior on this home. But the material is only part of the story. Because the sidewalk grades uphill, we had to build multiple step-up layers underneath the wall to keep the face level and consistent as it curved around the corner. That kind of foundation work is hidden once everything is set - but it's what separates a wall that holds and looks right from one that doesn't.
The wall follows a long, sweeping curve along the front of the property, which adds a softer, more intentional feel compared to a straight run. Getting that curve consistent with the Brussels block took careful layout from the start. A small landing pad is incorporated into the wall where the grade changes - a functional detail that ties the whole thing together.
This is the kind of hardscaping work that quietly adds a lot of curb appeal. It gives the yard a defined edge, holds the grade back from the sidewalk, and gives the whole front of the property a more finished, polished look. Clean lines, solid construction, quality block. That's the standard we hold ourselves to on every job.
